My name is TJ – and I play video games completely blind.
I played video games my whole life, everything from Halo to Call of Duty. I have been blind since the age of 15 and now spend my time playing video games without any vision, doing what I can to help others like myself experience the joy of gaming with friends.
Oftentimes people think playing video games is something where sight is needed, other times people think I can’t see, so why try. I decided to try after losing my vision rather than let it stop me.
About a year after losing my vision, I picked up a controller and started playing Call of Duty Black Ops 3, learning the sounds in the game enough to identify weapons based simply on the sound of them.
Over time, I practiced enough to play against other players in multiplayer matches and play cooperatively with others in the zombies mode.
Once Call of Duty World War 2 was released, I immediately jumped into multiplayer on that game, eventually earning a total of 10,000 victories without vision.
Now I am playing Black Ops 4, and writing a text guide on how to play without vision. I have garnered international attention because of my feats within the Call of Duty franchise.
I hope others find this information helpful in realizing that even though we may not be able to see as well as the other players out there, that does not mean we cannot play at all.
