My name is Ashley Nemeth, I’m 31 years old and a mother of 3. I am also a blogger, public speaker and I love to snowboard, golf and write. Oh and I’m blind. I was born legally blind and eventually lost all of my vision, I now only see small amounts of light.

My blindness has never held me back, it has been a driving force for me to live an amazing life. I live my life every day the way that I want to live it. There are many misperceptions and stigmas about blindness that I am taking on and breaking down one by one. The easiest way to break down these stereotypes is to get out there and show the world what we can do.

Blindness has made me the person I am today, it has given me the confidence to be who I am. It has given me the confidence to take on the world and love every minute of it. Because of my blindness I have taken on challenges that have been nothing short of amazing. I ran for political office in our recent provincial election and while many people said I could not or should not, I did quite well. It showed so many people that blindness is simply a part of me but does not define who I am and what I can do.

I snowboard in the winter and love the feeling of complete freedom on the ski hill. I truly live my life to the fullest and do not even consider my blindness when I am living, it is simply a part of me but does not define what I am capable of doing!
